Christian Copyright Solutions Celebrates 10 Years with iPad 2 Giveaway

Christian Copyright Solutions (CCS) is celebrating 10 years of providing services and licensing solutions designed to make copyrights simple for the Christian community. CCS was launched as Church Copyright Administration (CCA) in October, 2001 and began by providing copyright administration services for Pastor Rick Warren’s Saddleback Church.

CCS serves churches and ministries by providing simple and accessible online education, administration and licensing solutions at their CopyrightSolver and CopyrightCommunity websites.

“We want to say thank you to our community of loyal customers this month by giving away prizes including an iPad 2,” says CCS president/founder Susan Fontaine Godwin. “We’re also excited to unveil our redesigned site with new resource features like videos, fact sheets, free church idea kits, company highlights, and much more.”

“We are thrilled and honored to be celebrating 10 years of serving the Christian community,” says Fontaine Godwin. “Over the years, we have partnered with church and ministry clients to identify their current copyright licensing needs and develop new licensing solutions because of their input and feedback.”

“Interaction with our customers helps us crystalize our focus on developing the next copyright solution,” explains CCS client relationsh director Gary Godwin. “We look forward to continuing to collaborate with our clients and copyright owners in the years ahead to further simplify copyright compliance.”

Since 2001, CCS has helped more than 2,000 churches and ministries become copyright compliant ranging from many small local churches to most of the top 100 fastest growing churches, including Saddleback, North Point, Gateway, Willow Creek, Lakewood (Houston), Elevation, and Christ Church of the Valley.

CCS’s innovative web based CopyrightSolver app allows clients to manage obtaining copyright licenses through the PERMISSIONSplus online service, which leaves the entire clearance process to CopyrightSolver’s team of administration professionals.

In 2006, CCS partnered with ASCAP, BMI and SESAC in 2006 to provide WORSHIPcast, a one-stop comprehensive church streaming license covering 16 million songs. In 2008, they again partnered with the three US performance rights organizations (PROs) to offer PERFORMmusic, comprehensive church performance license for facilities and events.

The CCS team brings experience from many fields to satisfy their mission. They have worked for industry veterans including Integrity Music, EMI-CMG, Maranatha! Music and Worship Leader Publishing. They also understand the needs of churches, as the staff includes members of church vestries, worship teams and even a lead pastor’s wife.

You can enter the Copyright Solver 10 year anniversary iPad 2 giveaway by going to their website giveaway page. They are also giving away five $25 Starbucks gift cards and ten journals.

I Have a Dream (It Feels Like Home) – The City Harmonic, CD Review & Giveaway

Ever since Hamilton Ontario based band The City Harmonic released their EP Introducing The City Harmonic on November 23, 2010, they have quickly catapulted from a small independent Canadian band to a respected, well written and to-be-noticed force in Christian music. They have definitely been put to the test this past year with tour dates, interviews and live performances but only seem to have given them more of a drive to write.

Being quoted as “nostalgic Brit-pop meets campfire sing-along” with some musical comparisons to Coldplay and Arcade Fire, they have definitely been a band that some would expect to find pumping out top 40 hits, radio releases and the allure of quick success. I don’t see that however.  They have had great momentum on the heels of their acclaimed single “Manifesto” which has been viewed over 1,000,000 times on YouTube and has also become an anthem for major organizations and sports figures.  Although the band is fairly young, there is a maturity and discernment in their lyrics.

Listening to this album, I Have a Dream (It Feels Like Home), I’m thoroughly convinced – whether through mutual resolve or great mentoring, the band has delivered a true manifesto – their public declaration to the world that they have something to say, know why they need to say it and also deliver the answer (though not from themselves) but rather the One who delivered it.  This album is a journey using clever musicality, piano driven melodic patterns, anthem-like choruses drawing you into singing along, all while delivering a deliberate message.  A key lyric that stood out to me in the song “Fell Apart” is “…something real in a world of fake”.  It’s obvious in their writing that they are not afraid to tackle the “fake” that the world has to offer and suggest a better way.

The message is clear from the band that the music, lyrics and writing they wish to share will not be locked into a “hit” formula. The opening track “Yours” contains no quick rhythm, it exceeds 4 minutes in length, no rush to the vocals or even a steady toe tapping beat – the hook simply doesn’t come until the chorus itself. I love the fact that this very first track declares “Yours, all of it”. I suspect this could act as an offering from the band to God regarding the album itself. I respect that greatly. Musicians will also appreciate the subtle time signature change in the bridge leading to the ending chorus.

Another great song is “Be Still, O My Soul”. I appreciate how it builds out of a mono sounding “piano in the room feel”, it grows into stereo with use of harmonica and acoustic guitars, lights up quickly with a sound reminiscent of U2’s All I Want is You style but then as quickly as it builds it dies. It actually makes you want more.  The track “Wake Me Up” continues with creativity starting with the hammered dulcimer and builds into another piano driven anthem.  The title track “I Have A Dream (It Feels Like Home)” in my opinion starts very similar to “That Song” by another Canadian band Big Wreck (later Thornley) but in all fairness, departs quickly after the opening into another well arranged piano driven rock ballad.

The album is a sonic journey, an audio canvas of a story unfolding much like a painting being created where history, pain, reality, hopes, dreams and the promise of the afterlife intertwine with one destination. Although you are keenly aware of your broken and sinful condition as you reflect on the lyrics of this album, the destination of each song and ultimately the album is a sense that our dream, the home we have in God is real, available and waiting.

I would recommend this album highly to anyone searching the truth of God or those who have walked with Him for years. You will be moved as I was.

“Here We Are”, Harbour Live – CD Review & Giveaway/Free Song

Earlier this year Harbour Live released Here We Are - their first live church worship album. The Harbour Church (Fort Lauderdale, FL) is the home church to Andrew Ehrenzeller and Matt Reed who have both been featured on All About Worship with their recent releases.

The production values on this album are quite good for a local church’s first recording. The sound on this album is pretty standard following the Hillsong and Jesus Culture style There are a few deviations, but for the most part they remained in familiar territory. The album was actually produced by Jeremy Edwardson, who also produces Bethel Church (Redding, CA) and Jesus Culture projects.

Track 2 “Here We Are” is one of the tracks I really found myself enjoying. It opens with a solid guitar hook, but during the verses it uses a driving bass line to push the song that gives way to heavy guitars during the Chorus. The song is solid lyrically; it lists characteristics of God and his promises. They are simple and singable as all of the songs on this album are used in Harbour Church’s services and small groups. It fits well in congregational worship.

“Who Can Compare” is another solid song. It has soft female vocals (by Mary Kat Conolley – Andrew Ehrenzeller’s fiancee/soon-to-be wife) backed by a very ethereal pad. The piano and acoustic guitar add to the soft worship vibe of the song. The song is praising and honoring God because He leads us into righteousness. It speaks of how He guides us and calls us gently into His presence. The simple bridge which says, “You are The Way. You are The Truth and You are The Life”, really draws the Spirit of God and you can feel it even through the CD.

Track 8 really stands out to me on this album. “This Is Our God” seems to be the furthest deviation from the Hillsong and Jesus Culture style. The song has a upbeat driven rhythm reminiscent of The Killers. Lyrically it is an awesome description of our God; His power and might, and the authority over the works of darkness. This is a song I want to learn myself to start using in my church.

Overall this is a solid first offering from The Habour Church. If there was anything negative to be said about it, it is this: Here We Are is too safe and doesn’t venture far enough from the Hillsong and Jesus Cultre style that is so prevalent in the church. However, I see potential in this album and I know that this will be a great launching pad for this worship ministry to burst forward.

A full preview of the album and chord charts are available on their website.

About Harbour Live:
Harbour Live is a family of worshippers, artists, songwriters and musicians living in community and creating music out of relationship with God and each other. We exist as a ministry of The Harbour Church in Fort Lauderdale, FL, serving the local church in worship from the living rooms of homes, to the stages of auditoriums. Our music is just a shadow of the lives we live with Jesus, and our purpose is rooted in creating an atmosphere filled with the presence of God. Our sounds and styles are diverse, yet we are unified around the belief that simple people equipped with the Gospel of Jesus and the Power of the Holy Spirit will change the world as we know it. Our songs are written in the local church as a testimony to the world of God’s love, grace and power. It is our passion to spark this generation toward the authentic worship of Jesus and walking in intimate relationship with Him.

“Freedom Calling” – Jake Hamilton (of Jesus Culture) CD Review & Giveaway

When I first started listening to Jesus Culture Artist, Jake Hamilton‘s new Album Freedom Calling it took me a while to get past the first track. Not because it is a long track which clocks in at a full 10:00, but because it is a powerful anthem for the sold out Christian. “War Drums” is driven by its titular drum rhythms as well Jake’s raw vocals which at time sound like he is on the verge of losing his voice. Let me be honest and say, Jake is not a polished, heavily produced worship leader like many out there today. Jake is passionate, raw, and unapologetic.

Following this is another Lengthy track, “New Song” which comes in at 13:05. However much of this is actually a sample from Peter Grieg of 24-7 Prayer International sharing what he calls The Vision. This sample share about A Generation of Christians who are unashamed of the Gospel and live lives that are anything but normal because thye care more about God’s Kingdom purposes than their own lives. The song itself is about worshipers who are singing their song in the spirit of Elijah to as the chorus says, “Prepare the way of the Lord, the King is coming to reign.” Though it is long it is powerful.

Much of this album is targeted to charismatic and pentecostal believers, but it is not an album that singles them out as its only audience. This is seen in the track “You”. This heavily distorted guitar driven song is one of the most congregational songs on the whole album. It is a simple song that is pointed towards God, worshipping him by describing his attributes. Despite its heavy metal sound, this is a song that would be easily played in almost any style whether your church worships more like Hillsong, Chris Tomlin, or you really embrace the heavy metal.

Another track that I think is wonderful is “Looking for One”. This song is primarily acoustic guitar which is a solid change of pace. It is not the only track to feature the acoustic, but this song relies on the acoustic for its signature sound. The song speaks to the unique dynamic between God and man – who we are, and who he is calling us to become.

Jake is a personal favorite of my church, and so I have been looking forward to this album. I am happy to say it did not disappoint. It is a solid follow up to Jake’s first album - Marked By Heaven. The Album came out today and is available from Kingsway Worship and can be purchase d in many stores or in iTunes. It is a great mix of tracks including a unique rendition of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah”, which may be one of the most covered songs in the world. This is an album that is different enough without being over the edge.
